And Help Heal the World!
Hi to your complex and lovely self! There are multitudes of layers to all of us and it’s important that we not only remember, but live, the most basic truth of all: love. Along with that truth comes the reality that we can’t give what we don’t have! So, here’s my question: do you love yourself? Are you so busy taking care of others and situations that taking care of/loving yourself comes last; if at all?
Think it’s hard to find the truth that you are a radiant being? That you have so much love for yourself it just naturally flows out into the world that so needs our healing love right now? It doesn’t have to be hard. And you don’t have to start big! Read on about three simple, powerful ways to find the path to your inner love and peace!
1. Do one thing that gives you pleasure every day. Do it every day. At least one thing. Take your coffee outside. Photograph one beautiful thing. Hug a tree. Start your day by thinking about three things you are grateful for. Do the same thing every day. Or do something different every day. But do it deliberately. Plan what you are going to do the night before. Be consistent. Make giving yourself that pleasure a goal. Every day.
“It’s a simple solution. You change one thing, and suddenly you’ve changed everything.
– Rebecca Onie
2. Treat yourself like you would a dear friend! Many of us are fortunate to have loving people in our lives, but doesn’t it really make sense to be our own best friend? If you make a “mistake” be the friend that tells you “It’s ok, it’s not the end of the world”. If you’re tired or grouchy, be the friend that says, “Hey, it’s ok, relax and just take it easy for a while”. Most of all, be the friend who accepts you for who you are and is always there for you.
“When you are your own best friend, you don’t endlessly seek out relationships, friendships and validation, because you realize that the only validation and approval you need is your own.
– Mandy Hale
3. At the end of every day, write down at least one (or two or three) things you did well that day. Could be big, could be small. A win is a win. Didn’t feel like doing laundry, but did it anyway? Winning! Really felt like goofing off, but got some needed work done? Winning! Didn’t want to talk with a difficult person, face an unpleasant situation, work out, but you did it anyway? Winning!!! Write down at least one to three wins every evening before you go to bed, and you will be surprised at how quickly you start to love and be proud of yourself just a little bit more every day.
The important thing with all of these ideas is to do them consistently. It takes as little as 21 days to create a new habit and a total of 90 days for it to become a lifestyle. Since we’re all likely be around the next 90 days anyway, let’s have some fun and make a new best friend – yourself!
